When you read a verse dont just pass by it.

I saw a video shared on youtube, but I cannot remember the name of the person who gave the talk. But there are a few points which I managed to copy, which I think is imperative for all of us to ponder upon.

From the video:
I'd like to ask everyone to learn to start reflecting over your religion, start searching, start thinking hard, when you read a verse dont just pass by it, you know, sit down with that verse and reflect over it, sit with the Quran, reflect over it, sit with the hadith of the Prophet (SAW) and reflect over it.

Ask yourself what can I derive from this? And you know, obviously reading the Quran and the hadith should always be done under the supervision of scholars. But nonetheless, understanding and reflecting, there was a famous scholar from the subcontinent by the name of Sheikh Ul-Hind. He was a part of a group of scholars who fought against the British while they were colonizing India, as a part of it he was arrested and he was sent to Malta, which was the prison where they kept rebels and people who stood up against the British armies. He was imprisoned there for a long time and when he was released from the prison, he gave a historical speech and in his historical speech he said that the people that I sat there for nights and years, And I ask myself one question, why is the Muslim Ummah where it sis today, And he said and reflected, that was every moment of my prison life was dedicated to, the man became a reflector, and he said today now that I been released, I find my answer to a degree, and I studied through Islamic history and I found that every time the Ummah was on a low, it was a result of  2 things,

1.      They have left the Quran, they had become far from Quran

2.     They have lost their unity, every group become about themselves.
